Trump claimed he had workers at the World Trade Center helping the recovery effort. He stated, “I have hundreds of men inside working right now and we’re bringing down another 125 in a little while.” But there is no evidence of this. In fact, Trump’s assertion was refuted by Richard Alles, a deputy chief with the New York City Fire Department at the time. It was also refuted by John Feal, who was at Ground Zero as a construction demolitions expert and is the founder of the 9/11 first responder health advocacy non-profit, the FealGood Foundation.
During a Republican presidential debate, Trump proclaimed that he lost “hundreds of friends” at the World Trade Center. But when later asked to name any one of those friends, Trump didn’t respond. His assertion would mean that of 2,606 killed in the World Trade Center, more than 100 were friends of Trump. Or to put it another way, of all Trump‘s friends, 100 of them were killed in the World Trade Center. No names, no evidence, just Trump’s deceit to enhance his own personal story. He insults the memory of 9/11 victims to feed his ego.
A Port Authority police officer who has worked to learn about each and every person that died in the World Trade Center, including those he knew personally, disputes Trump’s contention: “If he has hundreds of friends, he should be able to tell us about them.” The PA cop questioned, “why nobody has seen Trump at the September 11 Memorial and Museum” and why Trump was not seen at any of the funerals or memorials that followed the attack. “A sacrilege,” the PA cop said.
